Fairview Museum

I'm currently in a Public History class, talking about Oral Histories, museums, archives...that sort of thing, and for one of the requirements we're supposed to visit different museums. With spring break, I wanted to do something fun, but all my roommates go to BYU...which means no spring break! Ahh! But luckily, my friend Scot agreed to go down to good 'ol Sanpete County with me, to Fairview, to visit the Fairview Museum of History and Art...

and apparently the home to the National Shrine of Love and Devotion?!? Wha?! Come to find out, all the love and devotion was about this Fairview couple who lived long enough to celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary! Woah! There was a statue of them too, done by this guy...

Arvard T. Fairbanks...well that's not really him, that's his statue of Abraham Lincoln...but yeah, among his more noteable subjects, he immortalized the old love and devotion couple as well. So we learned that Fairbanks married a Fairview native, and went back later and bought the school house (where the museum is now located) to use as his studio. When the school house was bought by the museum, he let them keep all his casts, models and rough sculptures. You can see more of his work here.

There was a lot of cool things to see. I love this artwork. They used to have some of this same artist's work in the Ephraim Public Library.

See, the museum is pretty cool, considering it's in middle-of-no-where Utah.
